Music Legend Barry Manilow Scheduled for Surgery for Lung Cancer.

The singer has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with cancer of the lung and will undergo an operation.

Spot Found in Initial Phase

The 82-year-old singer, whose parade of beloved anthems from "I Write the Songs" established him as one of pop music’s most beloved showmen, will have surgery to extract a portion of his lung in an effort to treat the condition, which is in its early stages.

“As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of a severe cough followed by a recurrence of another five weeks.

“Although I was past the infection and returned to the spotlight in Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to be certain that all was clear.

“The MRI detected a malignant lesion on my left side that requires removed. It’s sheer fortune (and a skilled doctor) that it was found so early.”

Rescheduled Shows

He has delayed a number of upcoming live performances, but suggested he would be returning to perform by the February holiday for his enduring concert series at his Vegas home.

He went on to say: “The medical team do not believe it has metastasized and I’m undergoing further tests to support their conclusion. So, that’s it. No chemotherapy. Radiation therapy is off the table. Just rest and recuperation and favorite shows.

“I’m eagerly awaiting until I return to my familiar venue in Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.”

A Long Career and Personal Life

Manilow is presently in his 16th year of a show at the Westgate Las Vegas. The singer has spent decades in the limelight and revealed he is gay in 2017, after marrying his longtime partner and manager confidentially in 2014.

The couple were in a discreet relationship for in excess of 35 years. Recently, Manilow reflected on how crucial his partner had been to him during his explosion in popularity in the 1970s.

“During my rapid rise to fame, it was just crazy. And, you know, returning to an lonesome hotel suite, you can find yourself in a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re on your own repeatedly,” he said.

“But I found my partner right around when it was blowing up. And I didn’t have to go back to those isolated suites. I had a partner to be vulnerable with or to share joys with.

“I hope that young people don’t have to go back to those suites by themselves, because you can make poor choices. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was joyful.”
