Previous FBI director James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to giving untrue testimony to US legislators and obstructing a lawmaking procedure.

The former director's lawyer filed the response acting as his counsel in a US district court in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.

The defense lawyer declared he would attempt to have the legal matter thrown out for various reasons including that his client, a detractor of President Donald Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was charged shortly after Donald Trump pushed his top legal official to take action against him.

Court Developments

At the proceedings on mid-week, Comey's lawyer Mr Fitzgerald advised the court they planned to file multiple petitions to throw out the legal matter before a court case, arguing the legal action was spiteful and that a government lawyer was improperly designated to assume control of the legal matter.

The former director's proceedings was originally handled by a Virginia prosecutor, who resigned under scrutiny from Trump after his investigation into a different rival - New York Attorney General Letitia James - did not succeed to file indictments.

Mr Comey seemed in optimistic frame of mind as he walked into the courtroom on Wednesday, conversing with his legal team and sharing humor. He was supported by his spouse, Patrice Failor and offspring his daughter, a US lawyer who the previous administration terminated.

Upon hearing to the magistrate state his rights and the dual charges against him in court on mid-week, James Comey was asked if he comprehended the charges.

"Absolutely your honour. Thank you very much," he stated to the judge.
