It has been confirmed that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

An Important Comeback for the Franchise

The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.

This represents the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in important characters:

• Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes will appear as a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming was completed in November of the same year.
3. The highly anticipated film is scheduled for November 2026 premiere.
